After viewing the three videos that focused on internet searches I received very good tips on how to search the internet effectively. The key ideas were as follows:
One must have an aim and a purpose to help with narrowing a topic for research.
Use precise keywords when searching for data.
Look for alternative words to get your point across by using synonyms.
Wrap your keyword query in quotation marks which helps the search engine knows that you are looking for that particular phrase.
Analyze search engine results to determine which result will supply the most relevant data to the search goal.
Evaluate data on the internet for authenticity and for relevance.
Cite your sources when you have located the data.
When all these strategies are employed users will be more knowledgeable in navigating themselves effectively around the internet. As a result of this, they will be able to analyze, synthesize and evaluate data effectively. More importantly, for students to succeed today they need to learn to use the internet effectively to get information needed in the shortest possible time that is authentic.
