RDG 57908

Dear Class,
Thank you so much for all your patience in setting up your blogs. You were great problem sovers. That is what you need to be because the Internet and new literacies are changing so rapidly that you will have to be able to figure out things or collaborate with others to do so. (That is just what you did last class.)
Thank you for your persistence (sp?) Wish there were a spell check here.

Dear Class,
I ask you to reflect on some things that you found important to your work in integrating new literacies into your curriculum.
Please post some of the important ideas you take away from this class along with their application to your own setting. What are some of your long term goals? What are some of your short term goals for the future?

What have you learned this semester?

Reading Comprehension on the Internet

Dear Class,
I invite you to discuss these questions on this blog: Please take both sides to play the devil's advocate.
Three reasons why you agree, three reasons why you disagree and then your own reasoning with support. You might want to respond to each others ideas as a way to prepare for the midterm.

1. Is the comprehension process different on the Internet?
2. Are these processes extensions of traditional comprehension skills, or do Web-based learning environments demand fundamentally different skills?
3. What new thought processes are required beyond those needed to comprehend conventional print ?
4. If comprehension is different on the Internet, what implications do these differences have for comprehension instruction, assessment, and professional development?

Scavenger Hunts combined with Internet Workshop

Hi,
I thought that many of you found the Scavenger Hunts a feasible place to start integrating technology. I think that Scavenger Hunts can be an easy way to introduce a topic to students. Using a scavenger hunt followed by Internet Workshop(Leu) at the end of the week in which students share what they've learned about the content and about using technology will bring the class together- offer teachable moments.

I challenge any brave souls to 1)create a very simple Scaventer Hunt that is related to your curriculum, 2)have students visit your computer center during the week for a half hour stints and then 3)follow up with an Internet Workshop to talk with them as a group about what they've learned (about content and using the computer)
Short and sweet is good. Any takers for 2 points?
You will have to tell us all about it and show your work.

THe role of the classroom teacher in new literacies

I appreciated the feedback you gave me tonight on the new literacies survey. Thank you for your help and constructive suggestions. I appreciated your insights about the ideas you addressed in your small groups. After tonight's class what is your thinking about the role the teacher plays in new literacies? How do you see your role in your own setting?

Entry 1

Dear Class,
I invite you to read and respond to my weblog focusing on new literacies. I will reflect on my journey in integrating new literacies into my curriculum, will pose wondering questions and will probably ramble as I use this tool to explore my thinking about our work together. And will post sites that will enhance our conversations.

I invite each student to develop your own blog during this semster too and encourage members of the class to view and post their reflections on their work on new literacies.

Firstly, this is my first foray into the world of blogs- and I feel a bit tentative. This is a new learning for me. Therefore I am going to begin by reading online Blogs to get an idea of what they are all about? I will be back in touch?
